Postdoctoral fellow in Cardiometabolic pathophysiology and inflammatory resolution Type of employment: Fixed-term employment, 24 months Extent: 100 % Location: Institute of Medicine, Gothenburg First day of employment: 2016-09-01 Reference number: PER 2016/329 Our primary research focus at department of molecular and clinical medicine is on metabolism, diabetes, obesity and cardiovascular disease. We support and promote research and teaching in translational medicine to improve health and to benefit society. Subject area Cardiometabolic pathophysiology and inflammatory resolution Specific subject description Metabolic disease is driven by inflammation in the adipose tissue, and is closely interlinked with cardiovascular pathophysiology. We are investigating the therapeutic potential of lipids that promote inflammatory resolution in these diseases. Job assignments As a post-doctoral fellow the work will take place at the Wallenberg Laboratory at the Sahlgrenska University Hospital in Gothenburg. The primary focus of the position will be to perform in vivo studies, with a focus on cardiovascular disease. A variety of molecular biological methods (e.g. western blot, PCR, flow cytometry) will be utilized in the project. Tissue culture studies may also be implemented, to address specific hypotheses. Having good multi-tasking skills and a strong sense of team work are important personal characteristics that are of great benefit for this job. The position entails some international travels, as parts of the project will be performed in collaboration with international laboratories. The candidate must therefore be willing and able to travel abroad for short periods. Eligibility To qualify as a postdoctoral researcher the applicant should hold a PhD in a relevant subject. Since postdoctoral constitutes a qualifying appointment for junior researchers, we aim to target those who have a doctoral degree not older than 3 years from the application deadline. Assessment Applicants should hold a PhD in metabolic and cardiovascular disease, inflammation, lipidbiologi or similar subjects. Expertise in animal models of cardiovascular disease is a requirement for the position. Experience in flow cytometry and methodology relevant to molecular research (e.g. western blot, PCR, microscopy) is an advantage. The applicant must be an expert in mouse models of cardiovascular disease and should preferably have a good understanding of metabolic diseases and inflammation. Expertise in flow cytometry is an advantage.
