Postdoctor in Metabolic physiology Type of employment: Fixed-term employment, Up to 24 months Extent: 100 % Location: Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology, Gothenburg First day of employment: As agreed Reference number: PER 2016/209 The Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology at the Sahlgrenska Academy carries out preclinical and clinical research in the areas of neuroscience, rehabilitation, pharmacology, neurophysiology, endocrine physiology and circulatory physiology. Scientific activities include molecular and cell biological studies, integrative experimental studies, clinical research and epidemiology. The current position at the division of metabolic physiology, department of physiology, concerns investigations of mechanisms of hormone secretion in the pancreas and in white adipose tissue. Subject area Metabolic physiology Specific subject description Physiology with focus on studies of metabolism and hormone secretion from white adipose tissue and the pancreas. Job assignments We are looking for a postdoc to carry out fluorescence microscopy investigations of exocytotic mechanisms. The work assignment includes to specifically implement and utilize optic techniques together with novel genetically encoded sensors for measurements of plasma membrane potential. Those techniques will complement recordings carried out using electrophysiology. Eligibility To qualify as a postdoc the applicant should hold a PhD degree in the relevant subject. Since a postdoctoral position is a qualifying appointment for a junior researcher, we primarily aim to target those who holds a PhD who is not older than 3 years from the application deadline. The qualifications for academic positions are given in Chapter 4, Section 3 - 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance. Assessment A doctoral degree in Biology or an equivalent field is required. Extensive experience of both widefield and confocal fluorescence microscopy is required. Since you will be required to implement and to use software routines for evaluation of data, knowledge of programming in Java and R is mandatory. Experience of practical lab work is essential as well as fluency in written and spoken English. Personal qualities including strong self-motivation and good interpersonal skills are of importance.
